"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds" Psalm 147:3
I have a jasmine shrub in my front and back yard, flowers bloom early spring and the smell is amazing. Bees and butterflies love these shrubs and I love watching them fly around the flowers. One day I decided to go out and take pictures of these shrubs, to my surprise I saw a butterfly with broken wings sitting on top of the flowers...well, I thought it was just sitting there unable to fly. As I watched closely and with pity, I saw the butterfly take off and fly on to the next flower. More butterflies joined her as she played with them in the air. It was quite interesting seeing that butterfly... fly. Then I thought "that butterfly still flies, she's still a butterfly"
Painful experiences have a way of changing people. For a long time I felt broken beyond repair, yes I grew up in church, yes I prayed but despite all of that I felt far from God. Unable to relate to those around me, like that butterfly, I too had my wings broken. As the years passed, I grew closer to the Lord, I experienced him in different ways and with Love and care he showed me a new way to view my broken wings. God slowly unveiled my true identity,
That butterfly never stopped being a butterfly simply because her wings were broken neither did she stop flying, she might've worked a little harder, move a little different and other butterflies might look at her funny, but that did not hinder her from flying and enjoying what she does and who she is. Her identity remained intact. Just like that butterfly, I learned the true meaning of my identity, I remained a daughter of my Heavenly Father, a wife, a mother, a sister, a friend and a woman full of potential. Yes, I might have to seek daily affirmation from God and those who love me, I might have hard days and doubt my abilities, but my identity remains the same and yours too!
I want to encourage you with this, having broken wings doesn't change your identity, you are loved and you have been placed in a garden in which you will be cared for. Even if others see broken God sees beautiful.
